On March 8, 2024, a vibrant celebration unfolded at the Center for Special Education in Gombe, marking International Women’s Day. Muhsal Disabled Support Foundation (MDSF), alongside Advocacy Centre for Development (AC4D), Crystal Justice Initiative for Legal Advancement (CJILA), and Motherhen Development Foundation, orchestrated this significant event. It aimed to highlight the strength and significance of women with disabilities in our community.
The theme for the day, “Inspire Inclusion,” resonated deeply with the core values of MDSF and its esteemed partners. Students, teachers, and supporters converged to partake in activities designed to foster learning and mutual understanding.
Two enlightening lectures took center stage—one addressing personal hygiene and the other delving into gender-based violence. These sessions equipped women with disabilities with vital knowledge and strategies to lead healthy lives and safeguard themselves from harm.
Amidst the discussions and activities, essential items were distributed to the students. Sanitary pads, books, and blankets were among the offerings, ensuring each student had access to resources conducive to their comfort and academic success.
The celebration provided a platform for sharing inspiring stories and exchanging ideas on supporting individuals with disabilities. Representatives from MDSF and its partners shared insights into ongoing efforts to foster inclusivity and equal opportunities.
Gratitude was extended to generous donors who made the event possible, including Aishatu Adamu, Chairperson of the Gombe State Board of Internal Revenue, former Special Adviser on Social Investment Program, Ibrahim Yusuf from AC4D, Dr. Erisa Danladi of Motherhen Development Foundation, Zainab A. Abubakar from CJILA, and contributors from MDSF staff.
As the day ended, a sense of happiness and optimism filled the air, reminding everyone of the resilience and courage of women with disabilities. MDSF, AC4D, CJILA, and MDF reaffirmed their commitment to championing the rights and well-being of individuals with disabilities.
